Rewilding Uganda began with 650 acres of worn-out farmland and has planted around half a million trees, with a target of one and a half million. As the forest returned, so did the animals: pangolins, serval cats, jackals, banded mongoose, colobus monkeys, otters and more than a hundred grey crowned cranes. A second area, the 1,300-acre Shalom Sanctuary, joins forest to wetland as a corridor.
